If you have a PC (which I assume you do if you signed up for the Rocksmith+ beta), Rocksmith 2014 is also an incredible value. But it's great at getting you to play/practice consistently, and daily practice is probably the most important part of learning an instrument. So I don't think it's great at teaching, and it definitely won't magically make you good at guitar without putting in a lot of hard work. And then when you already have a guitar in your hands, putting in the extra 10 minutes for actual technical practice doesn't feel hard at all. I'd also get bored just doing chord change exercises for 10 minutes, but can have fun playing Rocksmith for an hour straight. But its main draw is playing along to songs, and in this area it's both fun and a very good motivation for practice. It has some videos (which you can find better versions of on Youtube) and some lesson modes which cover the basics but aren't all that great. Rocksmith's teaching tools aren't that great. And while I still suck at it, my impressions are that Justin is definitely more helpful for actually learning, but Rocksmith is way more fun and as a consequence way more likely to actually get me playing. Does anyone have any experience with picking this up when having never touched a guitar before and learning it by playing Rocksmith? I'd be willing to get Rocksmith Remastered and the cable if it's actually worth the investment and it teaches the guitar. I already signed up for the Rocksmith+ beta, but I'm not expecting to be selected ^^' My question is though, does it really teach you the guitar? I'm trying to get myself more active with it, and I thought Rocksmith might be a nice way to get myself learning the guitar.

With the announcement of Rocksmith+ I was looking into Rocksmith again and I was wondering, back in the day it was kinda presented as "Learn to play the guitar!". Now I've thought of Rocksmith a bunch of times back in the day when it was released, but always thought it had a pretty steep price to get into (and I already had Guitar Hero, so why get myself a second game+guitar?). I pick it up once a week or so, do the one minute training with JustinGuitar a few times and put it away again. So I've been trying to learn the guitar for some time now (bought it late February) but I haven't really been able to really get into it. Mostly around strumming - should I downstroke or upstroke certain chords? How exactly should my hand be positioned? However I get the feeling they might not do many changes here. Second, I want to see interface and note tracking/highway improvements. Nothing against Lady Gaga, but her songs/vocals transposed on guitar just wasn't interesting. I want something interesting or fun to play on Guitar. Someone mentioned in this thread (or the Rocksmith+ thread) songs from artists like Sleater-Kinney or Wolf Alice. But if this subscription model allows them to keep releasing content that isn't necessarily huge hits or artists, but is interesting to play, that's all I need. And no, I'm, not expecting Metallica or Pink Floyd in Rocksmith+. I got the sense they were releasing the bottom of the barrel, in terms of stuff they knew wasn't too requested, but was approved and kept the content going. While my initial reaction is that this is disappointing, there's a couple of things I'm going to look for upon release.įirst, will the new song catalogue improve under the subscription model? The last year or so of Rocksmith DLC was very disappointing (maybe abysmal), but kind of expected. I will say the DLC content is of course at a much higher baseline standard than any fan-tabbed versions, and it's definitely worth spending a bit for songs that you like. New DLC content is now done for RS14 but let your morals guide you. We also don't know if these things have affected their approach to a potential followup. I would be quick to point out that though this is quite common for the PC version it is not sanctioned by Ubi and we don't know if or how the availability of unofficially-tabbed licensed music affected their ability to secure deals for DLC content or how it affected the overall revenue of the game. The custom songs use the same song ID in-game as "Cherub Rock" but appear in the game as unique songs so you can effectively add as many as you want.

use the search engine to download custom-tabbed songs by fans - some people upload songs from their own musical projects, others have done it for existing licensed music replace a game file so it can recognize unofficial songs buy any DLC song (in the past this had to be "Cherub Rock" by The Smashing Pumpkins, but it can be anything now if you're willing to do an extra step) Not sure if it's against ResetEra's rules as it can technically be used for quasi-piracy, but essentially the process is:
